The microstrcture and high-temperature oxidation resistance of tungsten carbide with high entropy alloys as binder

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) hold promise for achieving excellence performance due to unconventional composition and structure. In this paper, the effect of FeCoCrNiAl HEAs as binder instead Co on microstructure WC cemented carbide was investigated. The isothermal oxidation resistance WC-HEAs carbides with 6, 10, 15 % studies at 700, 800, 900 1000 °C. results revealed that microstrcture dense, average grain sizes decreased increase content. oxide layers containing WO3, NiWO4, a small amounts MWO4 (M = Co, Cr) were formed after high-temperature carbides, ratio MWO4-to-WO3 in layer increases gradually temperature increase. films thickness WC-10HEAs became thinner than WC-10Co kinetic curves also demonstrated better WC-Co except content 6 %, superior carbide, which attributed formation protective oxides tungstate.
